| Scholarships for Poor Children Spanish School Jabel Tinamit has created a
Free Scholarship Programme focused on the poor children who live around Lake Atitlan.
Normally the poor children study in the morning and work in the afternoon in various kinds
of jobs. Many kids want to continue with their lessons but they can't because their
parents' are very poor and need them to contribute to the family income. These parents
simply can't afford to have their kids in full time education.
The Scholarship Programme
Our way of helping is to give the children up to USD $125 dollars per year for extra
education. This is not the full cost of the classes but the parents (and kids) have to
make up the rest.
To manage the money for this programme we have opened a "Scholarship for Poor
Children" bank account. Each child has a document to record the total amount (maximum
USD $125). When they need money they come to the school, normally monthly. We keep a
record of all payments.
